It is really hard to imagine that summer is winding down. It is sure hard to think about getting ready for school when it is still 150 degrees outside.
Today Conner, Nicki and Haylee competed in the semi-finals in the City Swim league. Caleb should have, but we agreed that if he swam in all of the practices, he didn't have to swim in the meets. Nicki was the only one to advance to the next round, so Conner and Haylee are done, and Nicki will be done next week.
Jacob has been taking swim lessons from his Auntie Heather this summer, and he loves it. Unfortunately today was his last day as well. Crap!
Living in Arizona, we've always felt it important for our kids to learn how to swim early. The only real way to prevent drownings is to make sure your kids are strong swimmers. Sure, I get the 2 seconds is too long, heck, I was a lifeguard. I've seen kids slip under the water, and I've pulled them out. It happens fast. But your kids will not always be swimming in a pool with lifeguards. It'll be those times when you'll feel at peace because you know your kids are strong swimmers.
Besides, how embarrassing for your kids to show up to a pool party at age 13, and be afraid to get in the water, because they know that all they can do is the doggy paddle...
